Audi Revolut F1 Team has revealed plans to expand its Formula 1 campus to attract and retain world-class talent.

The German car brand took over Sauber and its factory in Hinwil, Switzerland, in January 2025, and has now released details of a planned expansion of the site just one kilometre from the current base in Zurichstrasse.

Although the team received healthy investment when it was a factory BMW team, the Hinwil facility has required substantial investment since it left at the end of 2009, and the team has been forced to operate on a much smaller budget.

The new base will house its main operations, while the existing facility in Wildbachstrasse will be redeveloped into the team’s manufacturing centre and wind tunnel operation.

Audi F1 CEO and team principal Mattia Binotto believes the new campus will help it attract the right talent to move to the front of the grid.

“The best engineers, designers, mechanics and specialists want to work in an environment that allows them to collaborate, innovate and perform at their highest level. The Campus will help us create exactly that environment,” said Binotto.

“What makes this project particularly special is that it allows us to shape the future of Audi from the ground up. Opportunities like this are rare in modern F1. We are not simply moving into an existing facility; we are creating a home designed around our people, our culture and our ambitions. This Campus is an important part of that journey.

“We are proud that the next chapter of Audi will be written in Hinwil, and I would like to place on record my thanks to the Municipality of Hinwil itself.”

Audi’s engine development facility in Neuberg, Germany, will remain, and it will also continue to operate its satellite office in Bicester, UK, enabling it to recruit top talent without requiring relocation to Switzerland.

The team claims “elements of the new campus” became operational this summer, with full development scheduled for completion in 2030.
