The BWT Alpine F1 Team is the latest team to switch to biofuels to power its logistics operations in Formula 1 with help from its official energy and fuel partner, Enilive.
Enilive is a subsidiary of Eni, one of Italy’s largest petroleum companies and the second-largest in the European Union. It returned to F1 as a sponsor last year with Alpine, ending a 25-year absence.
Alpine is using HVOlution, a diesel biofuel produced from 100% renewable raw materials, to power its logistics vehicles throughout the European rounds of the 2026 F1 season.
HVOlution is a drop-in, pure Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel manufactured primarily from waste products and residues, such as used cooking oils and animal fats, at Enilive’s Italian biorefineries in Venice and Gela.

Enilive estimates its HVO fuels achieve an average 79.5% reduction in CO₂ equivalent emissions compared to a standard fossil fuel mix.
“This initiative reinforces Enilive’s position as a key partner for sustainable mobility, making a tangible contribution to decarbonising the logistics of one of the world’s most popular and innovative sports championships,” says Stefano Ballista.
“At the same time, it provides international visibility for HVOlution, our biofuel capable of accelerating the decarbonisation of a large share of diesel-powered vehicles and already widely available at Enilive Stations across Europe.”
To keep operations running smoothly and avoid delays between races, the team will draw on Enilive’s network of over 1,700 service stations across Europe, using the Multicard cashless payment system.
Beyond supporting F1’s broader net-zero targets, the project marks the next step in a strategic partnership designed to deliver high-value results for Alpine both technically and commercially.
“What began as a strong partnership around energy and fuel technology is becoming increasingly more strategic,” said Flavio Briatore, Alpine F1 team principal.
“The introduction of this new project demonstrates a collaboration that is built on trust. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship further both on and off track.”
