Every moment spent on aero development is vital for Formula 1 teams, especially with the upcoming Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions (ATR) reset, which offers an advantage to teams currently behind.
ATR uses a sliding scale to determine which teams are allowed to conduct additional wind tunnel runs and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses.
This is based on championship order, with teams ranked by last year’s Constructors’ Championship results through the midway point of the season.
That will then reset to the current championship standings, with leaders Mercedes-AMG Petronas set to have less aero-testing time than Oracle Red Bull Racing and Mastercard McLaren.
With that in mind, and as F1 teams settle into the European season, several are advertising roles in technical, R&D, and aerodynamic areas.

McLaren is advertising for a Senior/Leader Aerodynamics Design Engineer, whose job will be to design aero parts for wind tunnel models and work closely with the aerodynamicists, CFD, model shop, and vehicle engineering teams.
Similarly, Red Bull is advertising for a CFD Methodology Engineer whose expertise will be used to translate cutting-edge simulations into on-track aero performance.
Midfield outfit Revolut Audi is advertising for a senior aerodynamicist at its base in Hinwil, Switzerland, whose role will be to oversee the development of aero parts and “analyse and interpret CFD, Wind Tunnel and track data.”
Cadillac has advertised for a number of roles within its aero department, including CFD, engineering leads, and software engineering.
Williams is one of the teams integrating AI into its workflows and is currently seeking an Aerodynamic AI Engineer to support its CFD development. The team is also on the hunt for a Wind Tunnel Engineer, who will be responsible for running and testing models.
