The Cadillac F1 Team has appointed Marc Hynes as Chief Racing Officer as it continues to put structure in place ahead of its debut Formula 1 season.

Hynes’ role will focus on aligning the team’s sporting and technical operations, ensuring clear processes between drivers, engineers and leadership as the organisation prepares for its first campaign on the grid.

He will also take responsibility for Cadillac’s driver programme, overseeing race drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, reserve driver Zhou Guanyu and test driver Colton Herta.

Hynes joins Cadillac with a background that spans both sides of the garage. A former British Formula Renault champion who famously beat Kimi Raikkonen to the title in 1999, he went on to race in British Formula 3, Formula 3000 and endurance competition before moving into driver management and advisory roles.

He is perhaps best known in F1 circles for his long-standing involvement in the early career of Lewis Hamilton, acting as a mentor and manager from karting through to the early years of his professional career, and has spent more than two decades working closely with drivers at the top levels of the sport.

That experience – sitting between drivers and engineers rather than purely on either side – mirrors the remit of his new role at Cadillac.

“Building a new team in Formula 1 is a rare challenge, and I’m excited to help shape the culture, processes, and performance standards from the very beginning,” Hynes said.

“We have a strong and diverse driver line-up, and my focus will be on creating the clarity, alignment, and discipline needed to allow everyone – drivers and engineers alike – to perform at their very best.”

Team Principal Graeme Lowdon said Hynes’ experience would be central to how Cadillac structures its racing operations during its formative period.

As we enter our debut season, having someone of Marc’s calibre guiding our racing operations is a major asset for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team.

“Marc brings an exceptional combination of racing experience, strategic understanding, and people management to the team,” Lowdon said.

“His ability to connect drivers, engineers, and leadership will be critical as we establish ourselves on the grid. As we enter our debut season, having someone of Marc’s calibre guiding our racing operations is a major asset for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team.”

Cadillac is on track this week for official pre-season testing in Bahrain as preparations continue for its first Formula 1 campaign, which begins at the Australian Grand Prix in March.
