Day Two in our 12-day festive countdown feature looks at Silverstone’s fan-first plan to give Lando Norris full backing during the Qatar Airways British Grand Prix.

Few driver-fan relationships in modern Formula 1 have the pull of Lando Norris and his home crowd – and nothing demonstrated that more than the now-famous Landostand at the 2025 British Grand Prix.

What began as a simple idea quickly became one of F1’s standout fan activations of the season, selling out at extraordinary speed and turning an entire grandstand papaya.

Silverstone had long wanted to bring its successful MotoGP “Fan Stands” concept into Formula 1 – it just needed the right driver.

“The Fan Stands initiative is something Silverstone has had success with in the past at MotoGP events and there were always plans to introduce it to Formula 1,” Katie Tyler, Marketing and Communications Consultant at Silverstone, told Sector.

“It was a matter of finding the right driver and fan base, and Lando, along with his fans, was the perfect fit.”

Norris did not only give over his name for the grandstand, but the McLaren driver – who would go on to win the world championship – gave his own input into the process.

“His team was very supportive, and the initiative was discussed during the 2024 Grand Prix, with planning taking place over several months to be ready for sale ahead of the 2025 British Grand Prix in September,” added Tyler.

“Lando was actively involved through close collaboration between Silverstone and his team, providing input on how the stand should look and how the experience should be delivered.”

On race day, Norris made sure the fans felt it. During the drivers’ parade, he stopped directly in front of the grandstand, firing T-shirts into the crowd… before going on to win the race in front of them. The demand was unlike anything Silverstone had seen.

“The biggest concern was making sure our systems were resilient enough to cope with that demand which, thankfully, they were and the initial 10,000 seats sold out in 90 minutes,” Tyler explained.

“Feedback was so positive and demand so strong that we released a further 1,000 seats in May which also sold out in a matter of days.”

As Norris put it on social media after the win: “The energy was insane. Seeing a whole grandstand supporting you like that… surreal.”

The 2026 grandstand is bigger and better and will host 16,000 Lando fans. The stand sold out within days of it going on sale in September.

It will certainly feel real when Norris returns to Silverstone next July with the number one on the front of his Mclaren as he is roared on by an even bigger capacity stand.

“The 2026 grandstand is bigger and better and will host 16,000 Lando fans. The stand sold out within days of it going on sale in September and 42% of those booked for 2026 are repeat customers from 2025,” added Tyler.

Lando’s popularity is part of the story – but Silverstone’s execution is the rest.
A clear identity, a fan community already highly engaged, and genuinely meaningful driver involvement turned the stand into a destination, not just a block of seats.

This was one of the most impactful activations of the season- and one that could now define British Grand Prix weekends for years to come.
