McLaren F1 Team has turned to former Ferrari media officer Luca Colajanni to lead its press operations, appointing the Italian as Director of F1 Communications for the reigning constructors’ champions.
The move comes amid a period of restructuring within McLaren’s media division, which has seen the departures of Chief Communications Officer Steve Atkins earlier this year and F1 Communications Director Sophie Ogg during the summer.
Colajanni, 59, brings over three decades of experience across Formula 1’s media landscape. He most recently served as Motorsport Media Relations Advisor for tyre supplier Pirelli, but is best known for his two decades at Scuderia Ferrari, where he headed the team’s Motorsport Press Office during Michael Schumacher’s dominant years.

After leaving Maranello in 2014, Colajanni held senior communications roles with Marussia, Formula E and the FIA before joining Formula 1’s own media department. He later worked with the Italian Tennis Federation before returning to motorsport with Pirelli.
His arrival at McLaren reunites him with Team Principal Andrea Stella, with whom he worked closely during Ferrari’s early 2010s campaigns. Paddock sources suggest Stella has been keen to stabilise and strengthen McLaren’s media operations following an unsettled few months, making Colajanni’s appointment both a strategic and trusted choice.
Colajanni is expected to take up his role at the upcoming MSC Cruises United States Grand Prix, where his first task will be overseeing McLaren’s communications strategy as their two drivers – Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri – vie for the 2025 world championship.
